Sunday 9th January
So the beginning of NOYE was the registration at the Seminary, where all eager participants first set eyes upon both familiar and foreign faces! With the bus scheduled to depart in three hours, a cricket match soon founded new friendships. Soon we arrived at The Ferngully Lodge; its beautiful lush scenery creating a perfect spiritual escape for the next four days. As the music filled the air, beach volley ball and table tennis competitions were underway. However it was the Opening Mass conducted by Father Fini and Father Dyer which signified the beginning of the Eleventh National Oblate Youth Encounter. This was followed by a lovely dinner generously provided by St John Vianney’s parishioners. After dinner and community time, we all gathered for a group game involving much running around and shouting amidst the trees, ferns and mosquitoes. Subsequently rewards were distributed to the winning team which led us to a quiet reflection and prayer concluding our first day at NOYE.
