Opening Ceremony Friday, 12 August.
Oblate Youth Australia, joined with other Oblate youth from around the globe for the commencement of celebrations in Hunfeld. Over 1200 youth gathered in open air surroundings with rain coming down. The welcoming ceremony was rained out , but carried on regardless. The German Oblates welcomed the youth to Hunfeld and provided some music to sing to. A large 2 meter Oblate cross was carried to the centre of the stage. In the rain, the flags of the nations present were paraded to the front stage, and the Aussie flag got the biggest cheer of all! After the welcoming, and some music, dinner was provided (tortellini, salad, mousse and mineral water). The rain was still coming down during dinner time and the next event was moved to the nearby church. Despite the size of the church, the youth crammed into all parts of the church to be with the Superior General, Wilhelm Steckling.
