Exploring France - 6th August
Today has been a long day. No great summary just our itinerary and a few pics.
After breakfast we meet with our European tour escort and take to the road by coach to the fortified city of Avignon. Our morning tour will include a visit to the Palace of the Popes who lived here from 1309 to 1377 (then, just outside the border of Southern France), due to the vulnerability of Rome.
Continue north through the orchards of the Rhone Valley and passing the city of Lyon to Ars, the place where St John Vianney (the Cure de Ars) was based. Pilgrims from all over Europe flocked to see this simple Parish Priest. Visit the small church here with the saint’s incorrupt body and see his living quarters before celebrating our private Mass.
After dinner this evening we set off for an evening in Taize to experience the Saturday night music and worship made famous here in the large candle-lit church set on the hillside.
